The Hearing Loss Support Group of Nassau County recently hosted a Cookie Cutting to celebrate the group’s success since its launch in February. In addition togroup members, guests included former County Commissioner Dave Howard, Nassau County Tax Collector John Drew and U.S. Senator Bill Nelson’s Regional Director Katie Ross. Ross read a letter from the senator thanking the group for the great service it provides to the community and wishing them continued success.

The honor of cutting the Great American Cookie went to Gerry Mines, who was the inspiration for the group. Mrs. Mines had been a member of a similar support group in Chicago. Her daughter, Ruth Kaiser, wanted Mrs. Mines and others suffering from the “invisible disability” of hearing loss and deafness to have a group offering the same support, friendship, information and resources as her mother had enjoyed in Chicago.

The Hearing Loss Support Group of Nassau County meets every other Monday from 1 – 3
