John Mandrick, Utilities Department Director for the city of Fernandina Beach

The May 2017 issue of Water Efficiency Magazine has highlighted the work done under the leadership of Utilities Department Director John Mandrick in using solar power to offset the monthly electric bills for its water and sewage operations. Mandrick explained in the article that the city is now in Phase 6 of a 10-phase plan, which is scheduled for completion in 2018.

In the article Mandrick was quoted as saying that with the completion of the solar plan, the plant will be 52 percent powered by the sun. He also said that the entire project has been financed by ratepayers, not as part of property tax bills.

The Fernandina Beach project has been recognized by international visitors sponsored by the Department of State for “its exemplary state-of-the-art wastewater treatment facilities and for demonstrating innovative financial, scientific, and technical strategies for assessing, monitoring, and conserving water resources.”

Echoing Donna’s comments. John gets a lot of flack and personal attacks for his enforcement of the water/sewer impacts fees but his knowledge and leadership of the City’s water and wastewater operation cannot be denied. Thanks John for your leadership on this and other projects.
