People Who Love Japanese Food Love Fancy Sushi

By Dylan Bailey

For great tasting Japanese cuisine, Fancy Sushi stands out from the crowd. If you ask anyone around the area where they recommend going for Japanese food, you’ll hear about Fancy Sushi. I stopped by both locations this week and wanted to share my thoughts on what it was like dining at the restaurants.

I stopped by the Yulee location first. The relaxed and inviting environment struck me. Next to Dunkin’ Donuts, it offers a peaceful retreat from the bustling outside world. The interior has a warm and welcoming vibe and made me feel right at home.

The staff at Fancy Sushi are amazing, with prompt service and friendly smiles. They seated me quickly, despite the dinner rush going on. Something I love about this restaurant is they bring a complimentary appetizer. The Holiday Roll, a deep-fried concoction of imitation crab topped with shrimp sauce, was a perfect way to get my mouth watering.

Fancy Sushi’s menu is full and offers a wide variety. From Katsu to udon noodles and various kinds of sushi, there’s no shortage of choice. One of my favorite dishes to order at Japanese restaurants is the hibachi plate. When I saw the steak and shrimp hibachi, I ordered it in the blink of an eye. Without a doubt, it stole the show during my visit to the Yulee location. The dish came out fast, with plump pieces of steak and shrimp alongside vegetables and hibachi noodles. The fried rice added an extra layer of flavor, making the meal fulfilling.

The following day, I went to the Fernandina Beach branch, on Sadler Road. It mirrors the vibe of the Yulee location and offers an equally cozy atmosphere. Just like the Yulee location, they greeted me warmly and promptly.

At this location, I wanted to try some of their sushi. Their sushi menu is as large as the other options. A plethora of raw and cooked sushi is available as well as specialty rolls. I opted for the Dynamite Roll, which is loaded with salmon, imitation crab, and cheese, and deep-fried to perfection. I also tried the classic California Roll, which is filled with avocado and imitation crab. Despite the rolls being small, they were filling and bursting with flavor. I was pleasantly surprised at how much they filled me up.

Fancy Sushi’s impeccable service, comfortable atmosphere, and delectable food made it a standout for me. Whether you’re a sushi savant or a noodle nibbler, Fancy Sushi is a must-visit restaurant. You won’t go wrong picking either location and whichever one you choose, you’ll find a scrumptious meal waiting for you.
