Much-Awarded Young Pianist to Play at St. Peter’s

Prize-winning pianist Spencer McKee will present a concert on Thursday, July 20 at 7 p.m. at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church.

McKee, a recent graduate of Florida Virtual School, has garnered numerous awards for his playing. In two consecutive years he won first place in the Savannah Young Artists’ Competition. He was invited to perform at the 2023 State Junior Convention. This past February Spencer was awarded first place in the Palm Beach Atlantic Young Artists’ Piano Competition, and in March he won the Jacksonville Music Teachers Scholarship Competition. He also won the Mary Elizabeth Land Scholarship from the St. Johns District Federation of Music Clubs, and most recently he won the National Federation of Music Club’s Lana M. Bailey Concerto Award.

It is not surprising that Spencer has done so well. He began formal piano study at age 4 with local piano teacher Mary Watanabe McKee, his mother, who is a concert pianist, doctoral graduate of The Juilliard School and Fulbright Scholar. This fall Spencer will continue his piano study as a scholarship student at Vanderbilt University.

The program will feature music of Frederick Chopin including his Sonata in B Minor, Op. 58, Barcarolle Op. 60, and Etude No. 1, Op. 10. There is no admission charge for the concert.
