FLT Ramp

This is what happens when you put 33 volunteers and a pile of lumber together. Builders Care of Nassau County organized a wheelchair ramp build for the non-profit ernandina Little Theatre (FLT). FLT supplied the materials. The Builders Care volunteers, (men, women and children, ages 6 to 76) supplied the enthusiastic labor.

The majority of the ramp was built in about 6 hours and finished on two subsequent mornings by a few volunteers. About 200 volunteer hours in all. Great teamwork and when glitches showed up, they found the solution and moved forward. It obviously has ‘character’ as the volunteers were not professional carpenters. However it is sturdy and was built better than the national ADA minimum standards. In a couple of months it will probably be stained to match the building. For almost nine years, Memorial United Methodist Church has been a major contributor of supplies and volunteers to
Builders Care. Thank you to all of the volunteers who worked so hard on a hot day!
