After Assistant Nassau County Manager & OMB Director Justin Stankiewicz met with Nassau County Fire Chief Matthew Graves to discuss Graves’ future as Nassau County Fire Chief, it was determined Chief Graves will no longer be the Fire Chief.  Until late this afternoon Stankiewicz, said “It [was] yet to be determined if the “separation will be via resignation, retirement, or termination.” Information was just received that Graves will retire.

In an email to the Fernandina Observer, Stankiewicz said, “We will not be naming an interim.”

No reason was given as to why Graves will no longer be Nassau County’s Fire Chief. Graves held the position for a number of years.

Nassau County Firefighters recently fought a fire in Bryceville that burned more than 250 acres of land, destroying homes, and outbuildings and requiring support from multiple agencies.
