“Fly by Night” opens at Amelia Community Theatre’s studio theatre on March 8. With a catchy pop-rock score and creative storytelling, it is a romantic musical fable that is funny and bittersweet.

Harold is a sandwich maker who wants to write songs about sea turtles because he loves marine biology. He is always in trouble with his deli boss, Crabble, and can’t connect with his father, but he manages to fall in love with two different women, not knowing they are sisters.

The sisters, Daphne and Miriam, have left South Dakota to seek their fortune in New York. Daphne wants to act on Broadway, and Miriam, who was happy being a waitress in South Dakota, comes along to give her sister pep talks.

Daphne soon becomes the muse of a young playwright, while Miriam meets a gypsy psychic who guides her toward her soul mate.

The delightfully quirky “Fly By Night” is directed by Shelli Long and is sponsored by Wallace Pierson Travel. The cast includes John Bender, Elizabeth Bricknell, Ilana Gould, Eric Linden, Cynthia Riegler, Matt Tompkins, and Craig Wickless.

Written by Will Connolly, Michael Mitnick, and Kim Rosenstock, “Fly By Night” opened in New York in 2014. It is presented at ACT by special arrangement with Samuel French, Inc.

Performances are at 8 p.m. on March 8-10, 15-17, and at 2 p.m. on March 11. Tickets are $20 for adults and $15 for students through college, available at www.ameliacommunitytheatre.org or by calling 261-6749. Open seating begins 30 minutes before curtain on the studio stage at 209 Cedar Street.
