Florida Statute now allows fireworks July 4th, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day

City of Fernandina Beach

December 31, 2021

Much to the excitement of some and the dismay of others, last year Florida Statute 791.08 became law allowing the use of fireworks on three designated holidays. This means that the use of fireworks is legal on New Year’s Eve, New Year’s Day and the Fourth of July.
If you are going to use fireworks, please do so in a safe and responsible manner.
As a courtesy to your neighbors, you may want to let them know that you are planning to set them off so they can prepare. Many pets are panicked by the sound of explosions and some people may be suffering from stress or health-related issues.

Myopic:”lacking imagination, foresight, or intellectual insight”. Once again, humans demonstrate how myopic and self-centered they can be. For a few loud bangs, people will scare pets, wildlife, traumatize people, and pollute our land and oceans – killing marine life and other animals that ingest the debris. Party on!

For us who have to work early during these holidays and have neighbors letting off fireworks till midnight, it’s not a welcoming outcome. For us who are suffering ptsd and have no warning neighbors are planning an all night firework party, it’s not a welcoming outcome. For those who have pets who are terrified of fireworks and the owners are up soothing them all night because they dont want to pump calming medicines into their pet during these fireworks, it’s not a welcoming outcome. Finally, for people, like me who are dealing with all 3 of these issues combined, it’s not a welcoming outcome.

I totally agree that it’s noise pollution to expand fireworks here and there. New Year’s Day is a no no for me. I feel for the pets and those with PTSD. I relish my quiet.
