FO should do a story about the new Street Closing fees recently approved by the City. This $100 per block fee will cripple events coming downtown. “well, that was the point”…. some have expressed frustration with some of the events.
Understood….. But there are events such as Sounds On Centre that have served the community for many years, with little complaint, and has been responsible for entertaining the visitors and residents in a family friendly atmosphere.
What about the Farmers Market? Shrimp Festival? Others? Are these to be penalized as well?
There is a marked difference between a home-grown event of history, and a car-show from out of town that abuses the privileged of closing all of downtown’s streets here.
This broad-stroke resolution to some complaints is not reasonable.
