Unity GroupSaturday, February 13th, brought cold weather and brisk walking from Atlantic Avenue to downtown andCentre Street for the 9th Annual Interfaith Prayer Walk for Christian Unity. Services and walkers began at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church and continued to New Zion Missionary Baptist Church, St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, Memorial United Methodist Church and St. Michael’s Catholic Church. The final stop service concluded the event at First Presbyterian Church with a delicious assortment of homemade soups, breads, cookies and cakes.

Unity 4 CroppedThis walk celebrates the combined Christian Outreach of our local churches who “work and witness together in many different community outreach programs such as Barnabas, Joy to the Children, Angel Trees, Habitat for Humanity, Interfaith Dinner Network (IDN) at Salvation Army Hope House, Coalition for the Homeless, Soup Train, Gracie’s Kitchen, America’s Youth, Council on Aging, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Micah’s Place and Boys and Girls Club.

Sharing these prayers and common efforts and gathering around the table for a meal and fellowship on such a beautiful, although chilly, day was heartwarming — another great gathering for Christian unity by the almost one hundred people involved. Although the idea was created in 1907, it spread worldwide in 1968.
