Library Food for ThoughtYou’re invited to a party so grand that Alice in Wonderland, Julia Child, the Wicked Witch of the West and other memorable characters will be there, mingling with guests and tempting them with treats from their adventures created by some of the best chefs around.

Friends of the Library’s “FOOD FOR THOUGHT” gala, Thursday evening, February 4, will showcase the beautiful new and enlarged Fernandina Beach Library that opened in 2015, and at the same time recognize the legions of people and organizations who made the $2.4 million project possible, says FOL president, Bill Flynn. The evening begins at 6:15 pm with the unveiling of plaques out front that will recognize Fernandina Beach City and Nassau County officials and Friends of the Library for their leadership.

The library doors will swing open at 6:30 for a grand celebration with the focus on good food, good fun, and great stories. Chefs from Amelia Island Culinary Academy, Bar Zin, Café Karibo, Espana, Horizons, Lulu’s at the Thompson House, Nana Teresa’s, Patio Place, Pecan Roll, Ritz Carlton, Salty Pelican, and chef Adam Sears (formerly of Merge) will provide delicacies mentioned in popular books. Actors assembled by the Amelia Musical Playhouse will portray their major characters. Books include A Moveable Feast, The Great Gatsby, Like Water for Chocolate, Harry Potter, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, and others.

In addition, there will be celebratory libations, music and local art displayed gallery style in the new community room. Commemorative plaques will be unveiled to recognize donors.

“We’ve been planning this party for a long, long time,” says Dee Torre, FOL campaign chair, “and are so thankful for everyone who is sharing in the celebration. This Library is truly a community effort, and now it’s a wonderful community asset.”

The new wing which doubles the library’s size opened in January, 2015, and the original building was completely renovated and reopened in April. New furniture and equipment has been coming in since then. According to Flynn, less than $150,000 is needed to reach the campaign goal and complete the project.
Tickets are $100 each are available on-line at fernandinaFOL.org, at the Fernandina Beach Library, 25 N. 4th St. or call (904) 321-6529.
