The City of Atlantic Beach, FL, has a new city manager who is well known to the residents of Fernandina Beach and Nassau County. During a Special Meeting on August 9, 2017, Atlantic Beach Commissioners unanimously selected Joe Gerrity to lead their beach community. Gerrity, who currently lives in Fernandina Beach, previously served as city manager in that city. He previously served that community as an elected official, holding the positions of Mayor and Commissioner.
Atlantic Beach had narrowed its city manager search to three candidates. However, one of the candidates withdrew shortly before the interviews to accept the position of city manager for the town of Orange Park. The two remaining candidates were interviewed during a Special Meeting.
Following an hour of discussion, Gerrity was selected to fill the position on a unanimous vote.
