The winner of 5 ‘Tony’ awards, 7 ‘Olivier’ drama awards (both including “Best Play”) plus numerous other accolades, “TCIOTDITNT” is adapted from the (multiple) prize-winning best-selling novel of the same name. It ran for 799 performances in London’s West End before enjoying a hugely successful 2 year run on Broadway.

‘Christopher Boone’ the central character, is a 15 year old living in Swindon in the West of England. He is what we might nowadays describe as ” a high functioning teen with Autism or Asperger’s Syndrome….( though the book’s author, Mark Haddon, says that he somewhat regrets this “label”).

The events of the story are recorded in Christopher’s diary. At the suggestion of his teacher, this becomes the basis of a play. Thus we have a “play within a play” & move between the present & Christopher’s recollections as the teacher reads the diary. At opening, Christopher discovers the body of his neighbor’s beloved dog & determines to discover the background. During his investigations, a much more significant discovery prompts him to leave his comfort zone & travel alone to London on a new & more important mission.

Despite its somewhat macabre opening, we have a happy(ish) ending! There is some strong language, particularly in Scene 1 & occasionally thereafter which suggest a PG13+ rating.

The cast includes; Joseph Woodlief, Hannah James, Gillian Johnson, Joseph Stearman, Susan Joline , Karen Harper King, Sam Forbes, Frank O’Donell & David Watson with direction by Geoffrey King.

This Amelia Island theatre stages a variety of musicals, plays and revues throughout the year produced by a community of dedicated and talented volunteers.
