“Fernandina Beach Celebrates World Labyrinth Day at Egans Creek Park” Photo courtesy of Sherry Carter

Editor’s Note: World Labyrinth Day was celebrated by a group of individuals who gathered at the newly opened Egans Creek Park. When 8 Flags Playscapes began design work, a labyrinth was included in the design. Christine Anne Platel, area labyrinth guru, lent her expertise. Labyrinths have been around for4000 years, but a resurgence of interest began in the early 1990’s. Walking a labyrinth is believed to have a transformative healing power and is often used for meditation and prayer.

We thank Sherry Carter for sharing her photo. In early Spring of 1993, Sherry found herself driving from Virginia to Fernandina Beach to visit a friend and former neighbor. Two months later, she “landed an island beach flat.” In 1998, Sherry opened  a downtown business where for  twenty years she has  engaged many colorful characters and discovered a treasure chest of friends including the four legged. Realizing her life time creative bliss in photography,  she currently does freelance work and is a contributing photographer for The Islander Magazine.

We had a wonderful celebration, adding our energy to the thousands of people who walked labyrinths at 1:00 PM local time across the globe. Come walk our beautiful Labyrinth alone, with friends, or in a group. See Amelia Island Labyrinth Walk for more information about labyrinths.
