“Constellations” begins its run at Amelia Community Theatre’s Studio 209 stage at 8 PM on November 3 at 209 Cedar Street. This Tony Award nominated show starred Jake Gyllenhaal and Ruth Wilson on Broadway in 2015. It’s a spellbinding love story that unfolds across time and space.

Playwright Nick Payne’s romantic, intellectual drama poses the question, “What if?” What if words, actions, inflections, and eventual decisions vary in response to other words, actions, inflections, and decisions?

The two characters, Roland, played by Zachary Martin, and Marianne, played by Katherine Herndon, skillfully present the “what ifs” as a beekeeper and a theological early universe cosmologist striving for a meaningful relationship. What if one or both are unfaithful to their relationship? What if one of them is diagnosed with a terminal illness? What if one is struggling with the death of a parent?

Directed by Tener Wade, the characters uniquely respond to the same stimuli in various universes. We begin to understand the impact that a word or words, facial expression, voice inflections and volume, body posture, attitude, and many other factors have on the final understanding or misunderstanding.

Performances are at 8 p.m. on November 3-4, 9-11 with a matinee at 2 p.m. on November 5. Tickets are $15 for adults; $10 for students through college, with open seating beginning 30 minutes before curtain. The show has a suggested rating of PG-13 for adult language.
