Yummy Sushi Is, Well, Pretty Darned Yummy

By Dylan Bailey

Stashed behind LUV Car Wash, Yummy Sushi is a relatively new exponent of Asian cuisine that’s easy to miss but hard to forget once discovered. (Hint: One landmark you can’t miss from SR 200 is Lowe’s. Facing Lowe’s, it’s to your right behind the car wash.)

Stepping into the restaurant, the first thing to catch my attention was the immaculate cleanliness and the cozy ambiance. The staff’s promptness and efficiency set a high bar for the dining experience. But what sets Yummy Sushi apart is its unique combination of various cuisines. Here, your palate can travel from Japan to China, all in one meal.

For my starter, I dove into the world of Takoyaki. Coming in at $7.99, these little round balls are a popular Japanese street snack, packed with chunks of octopus. They’re crispy, light, and generously filled, which makes for a delightful appetizer.

Next up was the highly recommended Tri-Color Roll. This sushi roll is an explosion for the tastebuds. It’s a heavenly blend of salmon, tuna, snapper, wasabi, spicy mayo, and eel sauce. Not only is it gorgeous to look at, but priced at $13.95, it also is filling and easy on the wallet.

The lunch specials here are a real steal. With lots of options, I settled for the curry shrimp. Priced at just $9.95, this hearty plate is packed with onions, carrots, mushrooms, and shrimp, accompanied by your choice of rice, soup, or salad. Not only was the curry flavorful, but the amount of food for the price got a thumbs up from me.

Their noodle menu is a trip to carb heaven, and the $16 Singapore Mei Fun was my pick. Thin rice noodles served with chicken and shrimp in a light curry sauce: This dish is a flavor smorgasbord. It’s the same curry as what I got with my lunch special, but when paired with the rice noodles, each bite is packed with yumminess.

The dessert menu might be limited, but the fried Oreos are a hit. For just $3, you can indulge in two Oreos, fried to perfection and served with a dollop of whipped cream.

Yummy Sushi scores high not only on the food front but also on customer service. The friendly and attentive staff enhanced my overall dining experience. If you’re seeking a place that offers great food without burning a hole in your pocket, then Yummy Sushi is your destination. And, trust me, you will say that you had some yummy sushi!
