Despite what you may have read or heard, City Manager Dale Martin has confirmed that the City of Fernandina Beach has NOT cancelled the Sounds on Centre concert series for 2019.
Additional information will be forthcoming.
But has the SOC permit been approved?
Technically speaking the commission didn’t do anything and technically speaking it isn’t canceled. The special event committee denied the permit and, after some backlash, suggested that they might approve it IF the physical location is changed and IF they hold it on a weeknight.
So, no, not canceled. Just so many hoops to jump through at the last minute as to make it impossible to negotiate. So, for all intents and purposes, they have batted their eyelashes (the committee) and said “no…we just asked for some changes and the organizers refuse to work with us. So it’s ALL their fault.
The folks on that committee must think the citizens are pretty stupid.
So the commission has not canceled the sounds on Centre series, but will it be allowed to continue at its same location?
