Work begins on City’s beach renourishment project

Work is beginning on the City of Fernandina Beach 2017 beach renourishment project.   According to Vice Mayor Len Kreger, the Corp is “presently at Fort Clinch doing some work on the groins. When they are complete they will move to the North End Beach.”

“This part of the USN/Army Corps of Engineer project is authorized by the 1998
Memorandum of Agreement between the State of Florida and the department of the Navy.
This program has significantly added value (reduced frequency) the Nassau County
Shore Protection Project as littoral drift (Longshore transport) moves sand south.”
