University of US holds first session

Forty students in attendance at the University of US held at FSCJ Nassau Center.

The University of US, an important pillar of the U.S. Constitution Scholarship Foundation, held its first session at FSCJ Nassau Center, Tuesday, January 10th. Forty Nassau County high school students were in attendance. Karin Agness, Founder and President of the Network for Enlightened Women (NeW), was the inaugural speaker. Her subject matter was the key Articles of the U.S. Constitution. A summary of her talk can be found on the website, www.uscsf.net. NeW has chapters on more than 40 college campuses.

Karin is a graduate of the University of Virginia Law School. She has been interviewed by Fox and Friends, Wolf Blitzer, Jim Lehrer and Laura Ingraham, among others. She has been featured in *Politico* and *Time* magazine online. In 2013, *Forbes* put her on their “30 under 30” list for Law and Policy. In the spring of 2016, Karin became a Fellow at Harvard University.

The next University of US session will be on February 13th when Judge Adrian Soud will cover the key constitutional amendments. On March 13th, U.S. Representative Ron DeSantis will speak about the tie-in between our Founding Fathers and our American Heritage. On April 3rd, one of the country’s leading Professors of Constitutional Law, John Baker, will speak about the different philosophies in interpreting the U.S. Constitution. Al Watson, President of the U.S. Constitution Foundation, states that “the primary purpose of the USCSF is to promote greater knowledge and understanding of the U.S. Constitution, the Bill of Rights and our American Heritage in our community and with our future leaders, our children.”

There are three pillars of the Foundation. The first pillar is the University of US which will enhance enrolled Nassau County students’ knowledge of the U. S. Constitution. The second pillar is a merit-based scholarship program. Students who meet the prescribed requirements will be awarded a Certificate of Graduation and will be eligible to compete for two $5,000 scholarship grants to the college of their choice. The third pillar will be a Speaker’s Forum. The Speaker’s Forum is committed to bring nationally

Blacks at Microsoft Scholarships is available for high-school senior of African descent (African-American, African, or Ethiopian) who plans to pursue a bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, computer information systems, or select business programs (such as finance, business administration, or marketing).

Application Deadline is March 1, 2017
