South 14th Street and Cashen Drive south of Sadler Road was the scene of a mid afternoon accident on April 28, involving a tractor trailer truck loaded with wood chips. According to individuals on the scene, the truck was heading south on 14th Street and attempted to make a turn on Cashen Drive. The wheels of the trailer rolled into a deep swale causing the trailer to overturn.
Individuals on the scene also told the Fernandina Observer that after the driver stopped at CVS for a drink, his GPS directed him south on 14th and right on Cashen. The driver was unfamiliar with the area.
Individuals on the scene also reported that several accidents have taken place involving the heavily weeded swales.
