The 21st Annual Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance is just around the corner. One of the annual events is the “Reliable Carriers Eight Flags Road Tour”, which is set for Friday, March 11, 2016. As in past years, this “Road Rally” style event will conclude with the 50+ vehicles on public display in historic downtown Fernandina Beach.

Please keep in mind that a portion of the streets will be temporarily closed during the event. This allows the public to safely view the cars at no cost, while the car owners enjoy a private luncheon provided by 21 generous area restaurants. Lunch will again be served by the volunteers and staff of Micah’s Place.

All streets will reopen following the event at 2:00PM.

Our sincere thanks go out to all of area residents and businesses for their support of the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance. Your cooperation has helped to turn Amelia Island into the home of one of the top automotive events in the world. As well as helping to build the Jane & Bill Warner Center for Caring, the Hospice Center serving Nassau County.

It also benefits Shop with Cops and Micah’s Place. Both of whom are members of the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance Foundation, and serve Nassau County.

Thank you again for your support and happy motoring.

Question for the Observer or Mr. Warner or anyone in the know: did the parking for Concours show car trailers ever get resolved?

Yes, the parking has been resolved. Here is the latest from Deputy City Manager Marshall McCrary: “Parking for the Concours is still on track for relocation to the airport. And, yes, operations are affected to varying degrees due to the various upcoming activities. The displaced Concours vehicle carrier parking will be on Taxiway E – use of that taxiway will be impacted as a result. Subsequent to agreeing to that relocation, the City became aware of the need to address the Bonham’s tent location, which lies within the runway protection zone for runway 9/27. Runway 9/27 needs to be closed while that tent is in use. A temporary driveway and associated culvert should be going in any day to provide access (through a gate, of course!) from the Parkway onto the airport. This will be directly across from the driveway accessing the golf course for the Bonham’s auction. As Dale [Martin, City Manager] mentioned last night [during the 3/1/2016 FBCC meeting], a complaint was filed with the FAA about the City’s need to temporarily suspend use of runway 9/27 due to the Bonham’s public assembly occurring on the golf course in the runway protection zone for 9/27. That runway should’ve been closed last year for the same reason, but somehow it wasn’t addressed. After this year’s events are concluded, the City will be working with its airport consultant to secure advance approval from FAA for any anticipated operational changes to accommodate future years’ activities. With the advent of needing to close runway 9/27, the grassy area at the end of that runway became an excellent location for providing parking for Bonhams, as well as volunteer parking for the Concours. (Concours visitor parking will still be handled up near the soccer fields at the end of the closed runway.) While closed, runway 9/27 will be available for airplane parking for McGill aviation.” McCrary added, “The Amelia Island Vintage Grand Prix (3/19-3/20) certainly affects operations at the airport due to the need to close runways. That event has full approval from the FAA.”
