imagesI can understand the allure of hiking the Appalachian Trail. It’s scenic. It’s peaceful. It’s balancing. “A Walk in the Woods” has all those same characteristics, but as with the Appalachian, it’s just not meant for me. As two aged hikers in a young person’s world, Nolte puts up the better performance. Redford’s acting is . . .

Mark-Sabadee-2-150x150Editor’s Note: After meeting Mark over the 4th of July weekend and hearing about his movie review website and passion for movies, I asked Mark if the Fernandina Observer could post some of his reviews. Mark is the son of Amelia Island residents Patrick and Susan Sabadie. Many people know Patrick through his volunteer work with the Boys and Girls Club.

According to Mark, his goal is to “keep them short (mobile-friendly, so you can decide on line which show to see), free of plot summary, and focused mainly on quality of film – from story structure to demographic appropriateness.”

We hope you enjoy.

A young “Film Critic” criticizing a Redford performance is like a young “Music Critic” criticizing Beatles music. You are neither knowledgeable enough nor important enough to matter.

I appreciate the opinon, Mr. Stanton. To clarify, I was not criticizing Mr. Redford’s performance, merely that his character had little to do in the film. With movies being such a collaborative effort, I rarely, if ever, single out a performance as lacking.

My interpretation was that Bill Bryson never meant his character to be the star, only a story teller. As a very long time fan of the book and Mr. Redford, I probably will be disappointed with the film version.

I appreciate the clarification and your dedication to a continuing effort to inform and assist patrons in making wise film attendance decisions.

While I frequently disagree with your conclusions, I always enjoy your approach and enthusiasm. Wish I didn’t have to schlep all the way to Sun Ray Cinema to see decent films. Keep up the good work. Thanks.

Thank you, Mr. Piatt –

I do enjoy what I am doing, and I am glad that is coming across.

As for disagreeing with me, that’s great! You can always use my reviews as my parents use the Time Magazine movie critic. If he hated a film, they put it on their “must see” list.

The book is fantastic! I have not yet seen the movie, but will not let this critique stand in my way. Everyone has their own opinion and I will make my after seeing the film.
