Prepare to be amazed, amused and astonished when five area storytellers compete for the coveted title of this year’s “Island Tales Story Champion” on the evening of Thursday, October 5 at GFCW Women’s Club of Fernandina Beach at 201 Jean LaFitte Boulevard.

This year’s theme “Relationships” promises to be a rousing, hilarious storytelling event. Enjoy hors d’oeuvres and libations first, then sit back and be regaled by some of the area’s finest storytellers.

The reception begins at 5:30 p.m. with fine food from 801 Kitchen and Bar and there will also be a cash bar. Storytellers take the stage at 7:00 p.m. to entertain you and earn your cash votes.

The stakes are high as audience members will vote with cash for their favorite storyteller. Tickets for votes will be on sale during the event with proceeds going to the Friends of the Library. FOL provides funding for up-to-date reading materials, furnishings, technology and educational programs for the newly renovated Fernandina Library.

Competing for champion bragging rights are: Ron Arya, Arva Butler, Nancy Dickson, Sinda Nichols, Cynthia Riegler and Mistress of Ceremonies and last year’s champion storyteller, Marsha Dean Phelts.

“We’re delighted to have such great participation and impressive talent for our fourth year’s event,” says Dee Torre, FOL President. “Stories and libraries are such a natural fit.”

Advance tickets for the reception and storytelling slam are $50 for general admission. Tickets are available for sale beginning September 6th at the Fernandina Beach Library, 25 N 4th Street, or online at www.FernandinaFOL.org.
