The Amelia Island TDC is inviting the public to its Seaside Sculptures event to unveil the five sculptures that will be featured in the one-year exhibit. The event will include an opportunity to meet with the sculpture artists; a hands-on art activity for kids, led by Fern and Dina’s; touch tables and interactive demonstrations with Amelia Island Sea Turtle Watch, Wild Amelia, Kayak Amelia, and Amelia River Cruises, live music, refreshments and more.

The sculptures incorporate naturally occurring and manmade debris collected from Amelia’s shores in compliance with the Leave No Trace ordinance, and will be installed on May 24, 2017 at four beach accesses – Main Beach, Seaside Beach, Peters Point, and Burney Park. The regional and international artists whose sculptures will be featured are Aisling Millar McDonald, Cat Chiu Phillips, Joni Younkins-Herzog, Alan Milligan, and Richard Herzog.

WHEN:                 Tuesday, May 23, 2017 from 5 to 7 p.m.

WHERE:               629 South 8th Street, Fernandina Beach, FL 32034.

WHY:                    The Seaside Sculptures public art project, along with the unveiling event, were designed to raise community awareness of Amelia Island’s “Leave No Trace” ordinance, an island-wide effort adopted last year to keep local beaches clean. The “Leave No Trace” ordinance supports an international program that aims to reduce environmental impact by requiring personal items be removed from Amelia Island’s beaches each night
