Port Commission Gavel Passes to Miriam Hill

Miriam Hill

Miriam Hill was elected Wednesday as the chairman of the Ocean Highway and Port Authority, succeeding Danny Fullwood.

Hill has been the vice chair of the commission for the past year.

“I think we have a bright future. We have good commissioners and we have good leaders,” Fullwood said in passing the chairman’s gavel to Hill.

Fullwood served two different terms as chairman for three years each and said “I’m still here and I hope to be here for a long time. This is a passion for me, I love this commission.”

Hill was elected as an OHPA commissioner in 2020 after serving as the commission’s interim attorney from 2018 to 2019.

She is a local attorney experienced in financial and government law.

Commissioner Justin Taylor was elected as vice chairman, and commissioner Ray Nelson was elected secretary/treasurer.

Hill won election over commissioner Mike Cole, who previously had served as vice chairman for several years but previously could not commit to becoming chairman because of other responsibilities.

Hill thanked Cole for his years of service as vice chairman, but made no other opening remarks before she began conducting the commission meeting.

This is excellent news! There couldn’t be a better Chairwoman for this time. Best of luck to you!
