1. What is the future for the Ocean Highway and Port Authority?

First, The future for Nassau County is great and particularly The OCean Highway Port Authority. With a new owner who has a vision for increasing productivity and profits, a settled bond debt and the 2 million dollar grant from the state the port is well on its way to be one of the best on the east coast.

2. Where and how do you see OHPA enhancing county economic development beyond the Port of Fernandina?
Secondly , Our county is growing expeditiously we cannot stop it however, we need to grow the right way. We need to plan, plan, plan and prepare for the growth. OHPA needs to champion the efforts of the NCEDB and work closely with the BOCC. And COMMUNICATE and EDUCATE the public.

3. Since many successful ports around the state are part of general government, should OHPA continue to be an independent organization or should it consolidate with Nassau County government?
Third, We will be one of the most successful ports in the state, but to do so OHPA must remain independent to maintain its authority.

John C. Van Delinder

What is the future for the Ocean Highway and Port Authority?
I believe the future of the Ocean, Highway and Port Authority is very positive.  With the new growth in Nassau county and the dynamic business development it has become more important that our Port functions efficiently and effectively. This certainly can be accomplished with wise planning for the future.

Where and how do you see OHPA enhancing county economic development beyond the Port of Fernandina?
The Port in particular is a pivotal piece of the economic development puzzle for our county. Many of the business looking our direction are in need of good, reliable shipping.  They need rail, rod, air and sea channels to move their products.  Nassau county provides all of these.

Since many successful ports around the state are part of general government, should OHPA continue to be an independent organization or should it consolidate with Nassau County government?
It is my opinion that most of the time government is not as efficient or effective in management. The port should be an asset to the immediate public and decisions should be made at home where the effects of the decision are seen.

John Van Delinder faces Mike Cole in the upcoming election for OHPA, District 5.   All voters can cast their ballots on  August 28.
