Nassau County School District
MEDIA RELEASE
Dr. Kathy Burns, Superintendent
August 23, 2017 – 11:49 a.m.

Bright and early Thursday morning, August 10th, the yellow buses rolled out, the school bells rang, and some 11,600 students walked through our doors into their classrooms. While there were a few problems with transportation on “The First Day of School,” we worked to resolve them quickly to ensure the safe, secure delivery of students. We are already evaluating how we can improve our services and communication for the 2018-19 school year. Our goal is to offer quality customer service and strengthen our partnerships with parents, businesses, and the community.

This summer, school buildings were cleaned, repairs and improvements were made at many schools, buses were inspected, new employees were hired, a new school opened “Wildlight Elementary,” and teachers and other employees participated in professional development.

Everyone in our school family is looking forward to the new academic year with enthusiasm and optimism. We will continue our focus on the success of students and the improvement of our schools.

As we welcome the new school year, we will work to:

  • Provide safe schools for our students and employees
  • Ensure quality academic and extracurricular opportunities for students
  • Equip our classrooms with technology
  • Address our on-going school facility needs
  • Expand career and technical training opportunities

We invite parents and families throughout our district to learn more about our schools by visiting the new district website http://www.nassau.k12.fl.us/
