The Fernandina Observer welcomes the following businesses newly licensed – or relicensed — to operate in the city of Fernandina Beach last month:

Hurricane Irma no doubt had an effect on building permits issued in September. During September 2017, the city surveyed 249 permits, a decrease of 46 from September 2016. This brought the city $115,746 in fees. Permits were issued for 12new residential buildings. Mechanical (42), tree removal (38) and roofing (37) accounted for the highest number by category.
The year-to-date permit total is 2,987, compared to 2,689 for the comparable period last year with new commercial and residential construction permits up to 150 from 115 at this time in 2016.
