The Nassau County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Division, working with Federal Agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), were able to identify a drug conspiracy of at least four drug traffickers working out of Georgia who were supplying Methamphetamine to individuals within Fernandina Beach and other areas to sell. This information was obtained while NCSO was conducting “Operation City Sweep,” which resulted in 30 people being arrested

During the two-month investigation NCSO Detectives and ATF Agents were able to seize over 350 grams of Methamphetamine and two firearms from these four suspects.

All four of these individuals were charged with federal crimes. Charges consist of Conspiracy to Traffic Methamphetamine, Sale of Methamphetamine, Using a Firearm in Furtherance of a Drug Trafficking Crime, and Felony Possession of a Firearm. A total of 19 Felony charges between the four arrested.

The so-called ring leader, Jason Kelly Register, , Jason Register, the former Georgia Deputy worked at one time for Camden County Sheriff’s Office and the Darien Police Department, and also also worked in Narcotics at one time.

“This was a collaborative effort between federal and county law enforcement officers designed to counter the emerging threat against organized crime fueled by methamphetamine and heroin trafficking,” said Sheriff Bill Leeper. “Working together, we will make and keep our neighborhoods as safe as possible.”

Those arrested in Operation Ice Breaker were:

• Jason Kelly Register, Trafficking in Methamphetamine, Age 40, Waycross Georgia
• Leslie Erica Lewis, Trafficking in Methamphetamine, Age 31, Jacksonville
• Brian Paul Davis, Trafficking in Methamphetamine, Age 50, Jacksonville
• Brian Russell Schell, Trafficking in Methamphetamine, Age 34, Yulee

Let’s hope this sweep was closely coordinated with the FBPD for those cases actually occurring in the City, not the County. The FBPD retains close working relationship with DEA. Let’s keep the jurisdictions clear.

Certainly seems FBPD was not part of this operation since Chief Hurley or any representative of the FBPD was at the press conference. Somewhat strange but can’t argue with the results of getting these folks off the streets.

Are typo’s and misspellings (“sole-called ring leader”) commonplace in ALL releases from the sheriff’s office?

Stunning.
