11/6/18 @ 1:50 p.m. – At a Special Meeting today, the Board recognized Commissioners Steve Kelley and George Spicer for their service to the citizens of Nassau County. Today was their last meeting before their terms end on Monday, November 19th.
Commissioner Steve Kelley was sworn into office on November 16, 2010 and has served two four-year terms. During his time in office, Commissioner Kelley served with distinction and dedication as a member of the Board of County Commissioners and was appointed by his colleagues to serve as Vice Chairman of the Board from January through December 2017. Commissioner Kelley was a member of the Sheriff Administration Committee and assisted with evaluating the space needs for a new Administration Building and developing a plan for funding its construction. He also served as Chairman of the Local Disadvantaged Transportation Board since December 2010 and represented Nassau County on the Mental Health Court Committee, the Value Adjustment Board, the Americans With Disabilities Committee, and the Canvassing Board. Commissioner Kelley was a graduate of the Certified County Commissioner and the Advanced County Commissioner Programs through the Florida Association of Counties, which furthered his ability to serve his constituents in District Two, as well as all the residents of Nassau County.
Commissioner George Spicer was sworn into office on November 18, 2014 and served one four-year term representing District Four. He obtained his Advanced County Commissioner Certification and was the first Nassau County Commissioner to participate in the Torchbearer Program, a program created in 2013 in which Commissioners can further their education and obtain leadership roles with the Florida Association of Counties. His participation in this program earned him a spot on the Associations’ Board of Directors. Commissioner Spicer also represented Nassau County on the Northeast Florida Regional Council Board of Directors, the First Coast Workforce Development Consortium, the St. Marys River Management Committee, and the Canvassing Board.
Both Commissioner Kelley and Commissioner Spicer gave unsparingly of their time to address issues affecting the citizenry of Nassau County. Their exemplary service has had a positive affect on the County and will continue to do so in the years to come due to their efforts in long-term planning for growth and fiscal health. We wish them both great success in their future endeavors and appreciate all they have done for Nassau County and the citizens.
