March is Fraud Awareness Month and senior citizens are often particularly vulnerable to these crimes: identity theft; Medicare and insurance fraud; and telemarketing scams. Knowledge and information are keys to helping seniors protect themselves and
their assets.
Florida’s Chief Financial Officer Jeff Atwater has implemented a program — Operation S.A.F.E — designed to stop adult financial exploitation.
The Nassau County Council on Aging (NCCOA) is pleased to offer the program to local seniors on Wednesday, March 30, when it will host Florida Department of Financial Services Northeast Florida Regional Manager Patrick Juliano and Captain Brian McCoy of the Division of Insurance Fraud. Juliano and McCoy will discuss the dangers of fraud and how senior citizens and their families can protect themselves.
The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. at the NCCOA Senior Life Center, 1367 South 18th Street. The event is free and open to the public. For more information or to make reservations, call the NCCOA at 904.261.0701
