Santa Claus better check his mailbox this week, because 80 children from the Yulee area, took time to write jolly Saint Nick a short letter full of requests for something special. As part of the Yulee Christmas parade and festival, held on Saturday, December 13th, Nassau County Council on Aging manned a table and helped the little ones write their letters and delivered them to the local post office for a timely arrival at the North Pole.

Held at the Yulee Sports Complex, this is the 3rd year, NCCOA has helped local children write and deliver their Santa letters.

“The children and their parents really appreciate the effort that goes into this program,” said Frances Bartelt, NCCOA’s Volunteer Coordinator. “Both the children and their parents really enjoy working on the letters, and we had a huge turnout for this year’s festival!” she added.

The most rewarding part of this annual activity is making sure each child receives a response from Santa in the form of a short note thanking them for believing and being good all year long. Special holiday volunteers at the Fernandina Beach Post Office help Santa with the responses.

In its 40th year serving the needs of Nassau County seniors, The Nassau County Council on Aging is a 501(3)(c) not for profit agency. NCCOA’s mission is to improve the lives of older adults with a special focus on those who are vulnerable and disadvantaged. This mission is accomplished through local and state grants and financial support from the Nassau County community. NCCOA’s programs include Adult Day Healthcare; Senior Centers in both Fernandina Beach and Hilliard; Transportation Service; Meals on Wheels; and Home Health Services. The COA is partially funded by local, state and federal grants and donations from local individuals and businesses.
