Aretha Franklin possessed one of the most recognized voices in the world. For over 61 years, Aretha Franklin’s voice graced the genres of Gospel, Soul, R&B and Pop. Aretha was the quintessential artist as she was a pianist and songwriter.

She will always be remembered as one of the most iconic figures in modern American music and cultural history. And she will always reign as the “Queen of Soul.”

As a young girl, Nanette Autry (Director) grew up listening to Aretha’s music and her life was forever changed. Indeed, Aretha’s music is the catalyst that prompted Nanette’s life’s work as an educator and performer.

Nanette formed Nanette Autry and Friends as an ensemble of local performers dedicated to preserving musical and theatrical traditions of the African-American artist experience. The members of the ensemble are Nanette Autry, Johnetta Howard, Reggie “Lee” Lester, Jennien Baker, Michelle Gardner, Deena Raysor, Sharlene Raysor, Jeff Groden-Thomas, Deidre A. Wallace and Ruth Charlene Davis.

“Aretha Franklin Tribute is Nanette and Friends vision of a spiritual and soulful homegoing celebration for the “Queen of Soul.”
