A week ago Saturday was a busy day in Fernandina Beach between Katies Ride, Earth Day Activities and the downtown Farmers Market. However, the library on South 4th Street and Alachua was alive with music and drama for children of all ages. “Mrs. Kate” Carpenter entertained with music, exercise, and puppets as children and parents helped her perform in the new library conference room.

Mrs. Kate was raised in California and started writing songs when she was 18. She became a Christian in 1972, and worked in a state park where she met her husband on summer break from college. They married in 1973 and he became a minister, while she was a stay-at-home mom. While working as a substitute teacher, she read a book called “How to Make Money Performing in Schools.” She was now living in Callahan and became a motivational entertainer.

Her music, singing and playing the guitar provide valuable lessons for children. Most of all she likes to make people happy, and has appeared over 400 schools and 128 libraries. Her songs include teaching moments, like Give Me a Smile, Crack a Book, Don’t Push in Line, Teamwork and her highly popular international best seller The Potty Training Song. Character building and inspirational lessons abound.

By the time the hour was over, parents were also participating with the children. Her CDs, including the award winning 2017 release, “I Think I Can,” are available online. Check out her website: www.Mrs.Kate.com.

She is also available for adult entertainment, but her next challenge will be her husband’s retirement in 2018. They hope to travel for a year. I’ll bet that Mrs. Kate’s entertainment will follow her.
