Recently, the Volunteer Coordinator for the Nassau County Council on Aging, Frances Bartelt was contacted by Joyce Jones asking for volunteer help with her aging mother’s property. According to Jones, Mrs. Chatman’s property needed grass mowing on an acre-sized lot, trimming tree branches, pressure washing, gutter cleaning, trash pickup, and shed cleaning.

At the same time, Bartelt received an email wanting to know if the COA had any available projects for Keller Williams Realty Associates for May 8th in observance of RED Day (Renew, Energize and Donate) RED day is a nationwide initiative for the real estate company whose aim is to help improve the local community.

When RED Day arrived last week, beginning at 9:00am, 21 volunteers from Keller Williams along with three bank associates appeared at Mrs. Jones’ mother’s property to take on all the daunting chores. Gary Dore got the troublesome yard mower working with his battery charger and Mark Dilworth mowed for two hours. Volunteers helped with pressure washing the home, disassembly of a rusted out swing set, weed whacking, removal of tree branches resting on the house, painting an outdoor seating bench, landscaping with mulch and planting of flowers in flower pots. Keller Williams Realty Associates finished their task by 12:30 pm. Both the volunteers and Mrs. Jones and her mother could see the dramatic difference.
