The play revolves around Bertie Wooster, a carefree Brit living in London in the 1930s, and his keen-witted valet, Jeeves. It ‘s adapted for the stage by Margaret Raether from the popular Jeeves and Wooster stories of British humorist P.G. Wodehouse.

American audiences may be familiar with the characters from the television series of Jeeves and Wooster that ran on PBS in the 1990s. Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie starred as the title characters. In this stage production, Dave Lowry makes his ACT debut as the unflappable Jeeves, alongside Joseph Stearman as the jovial Bertie Wooster. The show is directed by Peggy Strickland.

In Jeeves in Bloom , Bertie has been summoned to the country home of his Aunt Dahlia ( Jan Cote- Merow) and Uncle Thomas Travers ( Bob Duffy), accompanied by his manservant, Jeeves. While there, Bertie plans to help his socially clumsy friend Gussie Fink- Nottle (Mike Roberts ) woo Madeline Bassett (Marah Lovequist), a hopelessly romantic young lady. Bertie’s efforts result in an embarrassing mix-up with Madeline, involvement in a burglary, and attacks by a mad, temperamental French chef (Sam Cobean). As always, Jeeves comes to the rescue with a plan to save the day.

Jeeves in Bloom is sponsored by the Horton family in loving memory of Charlie Horton. Charlie and his wife Peggy were charter members of ACT in 1981. Over the years, Charlie played many roles at ACT including actor, director, board president and valued volunteer. The Horton family chose to sponsor Jeeves in Bloom as a tribute to a man who loved community theatre and a story told with great humor.

Tickets are $22 for adults and $10 for students through college, available at AmeliaCommunityTheatre.org and by calling the box office at 904-261-6749. The play is rated PG.
