Wild Amelia is now accepting entries for the 11th annual Wild Amelia Nature Photography Contest. The goal of the contest is to recognize outstanding photography that celebrates the natural landscapes—the wild places—and the wildlife found on Amelia Island. The contest is open to adults and children, beginning and advanced photographers. The deadline for entries is April 5, 2019; all entries must be uploaded to the website www.wildamelia.org by that date. Cash prizes will be awarded for winning images; those images may be included in the 2020 Wild Amelia Nature Photography Calendar as well.

All photographers interested in entering the contest should review the rules and submission process outlined on the organization’s website. A panel of judges will score each photo (with names of the photographer removed) and compile the scores to determine the winner. Photos may be entered in four different categories: Birds, Other Fauna (mammals, reptiles, insects, amphibians, etc.), Flora (flowers and plants), and Landscapes.

Photographers may enter as Beginner/Casual Photographers or Advanced Amateur/Professional Photographers. There is also a Children’s contest for children under 10 and from 10-17. There will be a winner in each category and a “Best in Show” Grand Prize Winner.

Winners of the 2019 wild Amelia Nature Photography Contest will be announced at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 18, 2019 at the Atlantic Recreation Center during the Wild Amelia Nature Festival Eco-Expo.

To motivate photographers to improve their skills and enter the contest, Wild Amelia will offer the 5th annual Nature Photography Festival on Friday and Saturday, March 15-16 with classes and photo shoots led by professional island photographers. Classes will be held at the Peck Center. Further, Wild Amelia will also offer a photography safari and Behind the Scenes Tour at the Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens on Sunday, March 17th. For details and registration information, please visit wildamelia.org.

The 13th annual Wild Amelia Nature Festival will be held from Friday, May 17-Sunday, May 19, 2019 at venues on and around Amelia Island. The Festival includes exhibits for adults and children, ecotours, interactive children’s activities, live animal exhibits, music, a silent auction, and a sea turtle release. More information about the Festival will soon be posted on the website: the 2019 Wild Amelia Nature Festival is just around the corner!
