In 1925, a group of Surrealist artists invented a collaborative art game that became known as “The Exquisite Corpse.” One famous production from Joan Miro, Max Morise, Man Ray, and Yves Tanguy resulted in humorous body features such as snowshoe feet and leaf ears. The objective is to disarrange the waking mind’s affinity for order through unseen elements from one participant to the next, building on the unpredictable.

Nine local artists, Gwen Cowart, Liz Dion, Sharon Haffey, Susan Henderson, Vickie Maley, Rebecca McDannold, Denise Murphy, Georganna Mullis, and Susan Schraft have participated in a new variation of “The Exquisite Corpse.” They enjoyed the creative and experimental aspects of their collaboration.

Come hear from the artists how this unfolded, outcomes, and final art pieces on Tuesday, Sept. 25. The program is open to the public at the Island Art Association’s Education Building, 18 N. 2nd St. downtown Fernandina Beach. Social time is at 6:30 pm, program at 7, followed by the IAA general business meeting. For information about the Island Art Association, visit islandart.org.
