Golf Club of Amelia cell tower placement on “pause” – County meeting re-scheduled to February 23

Editor’s Note: The Fernandina Observer received a letter addressed to “North Amelia Island residents” from David H. Boeff, president of NexTower Development Group alerting residents of the cancellation of a Nassau County planning meeting scheduled for January. A portion of the letter is printed below. Plans to construct a 130 foot cell tower in the maintenance yard of The Golf Club of Amelia is drawing strong opposition from area residents.

This photo is of a similar cell tower being proposed on the Golf Club of Amelia.

“In our last communique from December 19th, we expressed our thanks for your attendance at the December 12th community meeting. I have received many e-mails from concerned residents regarding the Concert Amelia tower. Every e-mail and every word has been read and understood.

I am reporting to you that we communicated today with Nassau County planning staff that we are deferring the previously scheduled January 27, 2017 planning commission hearing until February 23rd. We affectively have put the Concert Amelia project [cell tower plan] on pause while we evaluate alternative possibilities. While T-Mobile and 3rd party radio frequency engineers have independently confirmed the site is needed,we are doing as we suggested we would and considering all options including the type and height of tower to be used if it proves the golf-course is the only available location.
NexTower will again communicate with the community as our analysis evolves, but certainly in advance of moving forward with a hearing.”

“Already have a cell tower at the FB Airport. Why not use space on it, if
available, or build another one next/near to it?
