Lynne Pilkerton, founder and director of the Gilded Dolphin Art Studios and Gallery will be the featured artist for November. Her work be on display for the Artrageous ArtWalk on Saturday, Nov. 14th, from 5:30-8:00pm. There will be a meet-the-artist reception during that time. Refreshents will be pizza provided by PI on South Third St. and entertainment will be by the popular local group Hickory Winds.

Lynne’s new work features angels in many shapes colors and sizes. Her artistic interest in angels was sparked by a dark period of ill health in her life when she felt her guardian angel guided her through those experiences by giving her hope for better times in the future. Lynne required a prophylactic double mastectomy due to a family history of breast cancer and needed 15 surgeries to find health again. She is a passionate advocate for other women facing breast cancer.

Lynne is retired from a career in education as a school principal. As an artist too, her dream was always to open a combined gallery and studio that was a welcoming and creative space for artists and visitors alike. That dream came true with the opening of the Gilded Dolphin in March of this year. The gilded dolphin symbol of the gallery hangs in her studio. Making that dream become a reality took some hard work. There were permits to get and renovations to be done to the space which is in a 130- year-old building that occupies the corner of Centre and South 2nd Streets and contains three other businesses.

The gallery/studio space is above the Villa Villekula Toy Store and now has 5 studios showing the work of 7 artists and a gallery/workspace with harbor views. For those unable to climb stairs, the gallery has a slideshow of work on a video screen in the downstairs lobby. For information about the gallery, studios and classes offered, contact Lynne at 615-977-5629.
