Adam Salzburg

Submitted by Adam Salzburg, OHPA Chair

My name is Adam Salzburg, district 3 commissioner of the Ocean Highway and Port Authority. Recently I was appointed chairman of the board, and as such I feel it is important to share information with you regarding what is going on with your board, and at your port.

A Little About the Board: The board consists of five commissioners, one from each district; the same as your county commissioners. We meet on the second Wednesday of the month at 6 pm in the County Commission Chambers.

In an effort to bring the port authority to more citizens of Nassau County, we are developing a plan to host one meeting per quarter in communities such as Callahan, Hilliard, and Fernandina Beach. We believe this is important not only to increase access to the port authority commissioners, but also to increase awareness of the port’s purpose, projects, positive economic initiatives, and to hear from all our constituents.

Port Quick Fact:

Last month, 27,675 tons of cargo crossed the docks of your port. Throughout the entire month of December, there were 446 truck trips to the port. That is an average of 26 trucks per working day.

Connect with Your Port:

The port authority has a website where you can easily learn more about who your commissioners are, download copies of our meeting agendas, monthly tonnage reports, and other port authority business. The website address is www.portoffernandina.org. Recently, we have established a social media presence to further disseminate information. Our Facebook page is www.Facebook.com/portoffernandina, our Instagram handle is portoffernandina, and you can follow us on Twitter @fernandinaport.

Our next meeting is scheduled for February 8th at 6 pm in the Commission Chambers at the James Page Government Complex in Yulee.

Did you know?

One commissioner from the port authority is always a member of the North Florida Transportation Planning Organization. That board helps prioritize and plan future transportation projects throughout North Florida. Learn more about the TPO at northfloridatpo.com.

Thank You Adam, Communications is a wonderful thing. I think the Hosting of the Commission meetings in the Different areas of the County will be a Big Plus for all of us. Try to make those times, in the evening, so more of us can attend. Thank You.

Nice to have proactive communications in an objective way rather than the bullying comments that were so frequently experienced in the past. Hope the improved communications and openness for dialogue will continue.
