Friends of the Library 2017 Fall Book Sale. Friends of the Library is an all-volunteer organization whose mission is to promote literacy and lifelong learning in our community through programs, advocacy and fundraising for the Fernandina Beach Library.

We are delighted to report that our Fall Book Sale was a resounding success!
From the efforts of our many volunteers and supporters, Friends of the
Fernandina Beach Library was able to raise $24,816 for 2017 from our spring
and fall sales. All proceeds of the sales support the library and help fulfill the
needs and wishes of the community, whether it is expanding the selection of
e-books, large print books, software for the computer labs or periodicals.
Our book sales are both a community event and a community effort. We
especially want to thank the Nassau County Sheriff’s Office employees and
trustees who arrived very early on our preview day and helped to set up our
tables and move hundreds of boxes of books from our sorting room to the
transformed gymnasium floor. They returned on Saturday after the sale
closed and assisted us in breaking down the sales floor and returning the
Peck Center to normal. We simply could not accomplish this without their
continued support and help.

Our thanks go out to our tireless group of volunteers who work for months
before each sale, sorting and categorizing the thousands of books generously
donated by our community. When the sale finally arrives, they are also there
either greeting you at the door, helping on the sales floor, or helping at our
check out point. We are also so very grateful to the student volunteers from
FBHS National Honor Society and InterAct Club, along with their sponsors Dr.
Jim Glackin and Ms. Dawn Karpel, who help coordinate the scheduling of the
student volunteers. The students are a pleasure to work with and always are
there assisting us until we sweep the gym floor and lock the doors on
Saturday.

We are grateful for the continued support of Amelia Park HOA for lending
their tables to us for a few days so we are able to display our many
categories of books, CDs, vinyl records, and DVDs. Our local Harris Teeter
generously donated the paper bags for our buyers’ favorite $10 bag sale on
the closing Saturdays and we are grateful for their continued support.

Compass Self Storage, with the help of their manager Brooke Kelley,
generously helped us set up an additional drop off site at their premises on
Bailey Road.

Along with our legion of volunteers, the FOL team of Stephanie Brown, our
Sorting Room Director, Jody Mackle, our Volunteer Chair, Nancy Graham, our
Communications Chair and Ken Brown, our logistics wizard, deserve special
kudos for the months of work they contribute to making our sales a success.
It is only through all of our combined efforts that we are able to continue to
bring the FOL book sales to the community. Our first sale for 2018 is April 12,
13 and 14th. We look forward to seeing everyone there!

Great job everyone! And thanks to all the book donors – I’ve got plenty of great reads ahead.
