Daniel Wright, former Nassau County teacher was sentenced yesterday by Circuit Court Judge Adrian Soud to 20 years in prison followed by sexual predator probation.

In 2014, Wright was charged with multiple sexual offenses involving two under-aged students. Wright served as media teacher and yearbook advisor at FBHS and was a former teacher in Hilliard.

Assistant State Attorney Donna Thurson said, “Sexual abuse cases such as this are difficult to prosecute. To paraphrase Judge Soud’s remarks, there are three places children should know they are safe; home, worship, and school. Mr. Wright violated an important trust.”

The Office of the State Attorney – 4th Judicial Circuit of Florida issued the following press release:

Daniel Gregory Wright, 33, was sentenced this week to 20 years in prison and lifetime sex offender probation for his conviction on three counts of Custodial Sexual Battery, one count of Tampering with Evidence, three counts of Electronic Transfer of Information Harmful to Minors and 31 counts of Possession of Photographs/Sexual Performance by a Child. Wright pleaded guilty to these charges in November 2015.

The former Fernandina Beach High School teacher was arrested in June 2014 after authorities became aware of his relationship with a female under the age of 18.  Investigators later discovered dozens of photographs of child porn on the Defendant’s cell phone.

Why was Daniel Wright transferred from Hilliard to Fernandina Beach? There was obvious signs of a problem that were ignored.

Bob, you owe Doug an apology as Wright had taught previously at Hilliard HS before coming to FBFS. Although since Doug’s wife is running for the NCSB Superintendent’s position one naturally thinks there is a political reason behind the question, but the question is a legitimate one. From what I have read from various sources, the relationship and activities for which he was charged did not come to light until after he was at FBHS. If he wife didn’t know at first, how would one expect school administration officials to know?
