Homeinsurance.com, a consumer-centric insurance marketplace, has named Fernandina Beach the 10th safest city in Florida from hurricanes. The Atlantic Oceanographic and Meteorological Laboratory’s Hurricane Research Division reports that 40% of hurricanes in the United States hit Florida. With hurricane season officially beginning June 1st, HomeInsurance.com has ranked the 10 most hurricane-safe cities in the state to help raise awareness of hurricane threats.

Homeinsurance.com conducted a study to find the safest Florida cities from hurricanes and related events. They compiled severe weather data from NOAA to identify the cities that are less prone to these severe storms. The study evaluated 35 Florida cities with a population of over 10,000 residents. Fernandina Beach ranks on their top ten safest list due to low combined tropical storm, hurricane, and flood scores.

Residents in these safer areas should know that they are not only safer from the damage caused by severe storms, but may also have lower property insurance costs due to less frequent losses in the area. City residents in Special Flood Hazard Areas do enjoy lower flood insurance costs due to the City’s participation in the Community Rating System of the National Flood Insurance Program. The full report can be viewed by clicking here. https://homeinsurance.com/blog/10-safest-florida-cities-from-hurricanes/

Hurricane season began June 1st and ends November 30th. NOAA is predicting a quieter season
than normal; however, the City of Fernandina Beach highly recommends always being prepared
during storm season. Visit www.fbfl.us/flood for more information.
