John M. Drew plays “The Ghost of Christmas Present” in Amelia Musical Playhouse’s production of Scrooge, running December 13 – 16. Fun Fact: John’s son Joseph plays Tiny Tim in the Thursday and Saturday performances.

Amelia Musical Playhouse is happy to present Scrooge! the iconic musical by Leslie Bricusse. This family-friendly musical was first produced as a movie in the early 1970’s, and transformed into a stage play in the 1990’s. Although there have been hundreds of versions of A Christmas Carol produced over the years, in so many variations, from Disney, Mr. McGoo, the Muppets, Winnie the Pooh, stage versions for school, amateur, and professional theatre, with and without music, silent movies, more recent movies and many with a “twist” or different slant on the story. We can’t think of another story that has been performed and written in so many variations! This version is our favorite because it is true to the original story, and the music is reminiscent of old-time English music hall type songs. For this reason, many community theatres all over the world perform this show every year for 10,20,30 years!

We hope to make this a tradition at AMP. AMP’s production runs December 13,14,15,at 7:30 pm, and December 16th at 2:30 pm., with a cast of 25 local folks, ages 7-70+, a live orchestra led by Lynn Arizzi, and lavish sets by Gregg Dillingham, Geoffrey King, Kasey Thigpen, & Jeff Groden-Thomas. 904-277-3455 or ameliamusicalplayhouse.com $20 adults, $15 students.
