Editor’s Note: Yesterday was an exciting day for Fernandina’s Dina Saurs who journeyed to Lakeland, Florida to win the state championship for ultimate frisbee. Coach Tom Rowan who played ultimate frisbee in his younger years, serves as coach. It is obvious Tom is a great coach since he helped his team achieve a state championship in just two years. Amazing! Congratulations to Tom and the players!

Glenda Hewett is not a professional photographer but a proud mother of Frisbee player of Clay Hewett who is a senior and captain of the team. Thank you Glenda for sharing your photo.

The true winners are the boys. The game has changed so much with highlights now visible on youtube and ESPN. The game has transformed into a “hail Mary” style of play and it took every ounce of the teams energy to understand this style of offense is a losing style.
They learned to “grind” out possessions to get the final pass to be a short high percentage play.

The team was grouped into players who knew their role with players understanding that there are no heroes. This allowed everyone a chance to be an impact player. The decision to do this created a team where other teams had matchup problems in trying to stop us. We had no “go to” guy. We had a team of go to guys.
