The next field trips will be held at Ft. Clinch on Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 6 and 7 at 8 am. We will meet at the entrance to the old pier. Both dates are offered since the Jan. 7 trip is done in conjunction with Duval Audubon. I will be leading both trips. Please attend those dates that work best for your schedule. You can sign up on the Duval Audubon meet up for the Sunday trip. Target species include Purple Sandpiper, Common and Red Throated Loons, Scoters, and Common Eider at Ft. Clinch. We also go to Main Beach where Black Skimmers have been staying during the winter. If you have any questions please contact me at 612-709-4998. Don’t forget to dress in layers including rain gear if appropriate.

Our last field trip was held on Dec. 16, 2017 at Egan’s Greenway at the Atlantic Avenue entrance. we had a good turn out for the 33 species observed or heard. Besides the year long residents we had wintering species such as American Robin, Gray Catbird, Eastern Phoebe and Yellow-rumped Warblers.

Good birding,

Bill George

I’m hearing that immediately after these field trips the group will meet to organize and plan ways to protect the winter resting birds on Amelia’s beaches from the constant harassment. Thank you.
