On Thursday,May 12, the Nassau County Council on Aging (NCCOA) will hold an Open House from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. to showcase its future home. The public is invited to tour the building, located at 1901 Island Walkway, and learn how the NCCOA will use the more than 25,000 square feet to offer enhanced and expanded services for the senior citizens of Nassau County.

The new building will provide a larger, more comfortable gathering space for seniors to share time together enjoying art, music, games, educational and informative presentations as well as hot meals and companionship. In addition, a much needed state-of-the-art Adult Day Health Care facility will allow the NCCOA to expand its programs for those with dementia and early-stage Alzheimer’s.

This program, the only one of its kind in Nassau County, is currently at capacity, but there are many more caregivers who desperately need a safe haven for their loved ones
to spend time in a warm, caring and well supervised environment. In the future, the building will also offer the Nassau County community access to life-long learning
classrooms, which will allow for seniors to choose from an array of classes and courses according to their interests. A wellness area, computer center and event space are also included in the agency’s plans.

Since opening its doors in 1974, the NCCOA has been the premier provider of services for Nassau County senior citizens. As the county’s population of those age 60 to 75 continues to grow, so does the need for more programs designed to help seniors live happy, healthy lives. The new building is an exceptional opportunity for the NCCOA to grow and better meet the needs of our community.

We invite you to join us on Thursday, May 12, tour the facility and learn more about how the NCCOA is “Building for Our Future.” For more information, please contact the NCCOA at (904) 261-0701.
