How to schedule a COVID-19 vaccine appointment in Nassau County

How to get a ticket

Nassau County Emergency Management
Dave Richardson

Information Officer
January 5, 2020

Editor’s Note: Our thanks to Dave Richardson who responded to our request for a clear step by step process for signing up for vaccine appointments. The best way to be notified quickly of the appointment openings in our opinion, is to first sign up for the text alert (instructions below).

If you have signed up correctly, you will immediately receive a confirmation text. If not, try again.  After a successful signup, you will be notified via text when vaccine appointments are opened.  We encourage those who know of technically challenged individuals in the 65 and older age group, to reach out and  lend a hand.

1) Sign up to receive a text alert about WHEN an individual can go onto www.OneNassau.com to start the process of booking an appointment.
To get alerted each time new appointments are available, text the word NASSAUSAFE to the number 888777.

Click on this logo located on the Home Page of OneNassau.com  to see if appointments are opened and to download forms.

If you are unable to, or do not wish to, sign up to receive a text alert when vaccine appointments will begin, then monitor our social media sites and OneNassau.com to learn when appointment bookings will begin again.

2) While waiting for the next set of appointments, go to , https://www.onenassau.com/covid-19-vaccine-appointments/and read all of the vaccine information and informed consent details (there are links to each one); print and sign the consent form to take with you to your eventual appointment.

3) When “tickets” become available (a ticket = a dose of vaccine), a text will go out to everyone who signed up for that alert and the CoViD Vaccine website will have a link (a button) to “Get A Ticket” on the EventBrite site.

4) On the EventBrite site, choose the appropriate event (either “healthcare worker” or “over 65 years-of-age”) to claim a ticket. You’ll have several minutes to enter your name, address, phone, and email address then submit it.

5) You’ll receive your ticket via email. It will have further instructions about scheduling your appointment date and time.

If you are not a health care worker, the box for over 65 will show “no appointments available”. So I guess they are prioritized that way. IOW, if you are not a health care worker, don’t bother I guess or just fib.

So I have sent three text messages to NassauSafe 888777 and have not received a confirmation. Do I keep trying? Am I just clogging up the process by sending multiple messages?

How many citizens in Nassau County do not have a mobile phone, internet or other mans of accessing the registration the 100% electronic registration process? In an effort to be fair to ALL county residents, there should be more than one method for registration. Today, I am thinking of some of our most vulnerable residents, our seniors, disabled, low income etc. who may not be “tech savvy” or have the tools to access.

Thank you for the information. It was very clear. However, this system is woefully inadequate. The eventbrite system doesn’t respond, even within the first few seconds. There needs to be some sort of queueing system. You should be able to register for the queue in a number of different ways (electronic, phone, etc). I realize that there are limited doses. You should be able to sign up once and then the DOH can work down the list (e.g. alphabetical, birthday, etc). It’s ridiculous to have to sit and everyone try to get in at 10 am every morning. If you’ve ever tried to get concert tickets online, you can understand the frustration.

I have spoken to a techie who told me that system crashing with so many people trying to get in was bound to happen. I’m optimistic though. Nassau County Emergency Management will continue to work on the system and eventually signup will go smoothly.

I appreciate your response. As a former Implementation Project Manager and Director of Technology in large healthcare organizations, I knew this would happen. The DOH should have realized this was an issue, and It should have been worked out in advance. There needs to be a different system. And there still needs to be a system that accommodates those without technology awareness or access.

I couldn’t agree with you more Linda, low-income residents and most people of color don’t have a smartphone, laptop or tablet, or even internet service, and the people in this class are the “MOST VULNERABLE” of all.

That’s interesting, as Greg Foster has already stated the system is a total success. Do we continue to get incorrect information.

What a mess. Poorly designed process. Poorly designed web pages. Difficult to follow.

Is this the best we can do? They’ve been anticipating this for close to a year.

No evidence that the state established distribution procedures at all.

Robert,
It is expected Nassau County Emergency Management will change its procedures today to lessen the frustration.

Question: it appears there are two programs to sign up for( the waitlist pool and the text alerts for appointments. Am I correct? So does that mean there are two different allotments of vaccine from which I could possibly get the vaccine, or is ‘the waitlist pool’ only used if there are appointments open after all tickets have been issued for a particular days appointments? Thanks for your response

With the Nassau County Emergency Management/Department of Health Nassau’s vaccine allotment, there is only one source for the vaccine. To obtain a vaccine, add your name to the waiting list. CLick on the following link to be added to the waitlist. https://www.onenassau.com/covid-19-vaccine-appointments/

By texting to 888777 and adding NassauSafe to the message area, you will receive updates on testing, and possibly updates when additional vaccines arrive (I’m not positive about that, but it is worthwhile to sign up via text for these messages.)

Kudos to Nassau County Health Department for delivering the vaccine to the arms of my wife and me today. We got a phone call yesterday, and set up an appointment for this afternoon (Friday) at the Yulee Sports Complex. We arrived 20 minutes early, our papers were checked and we were sent in directly for our shots. We also were given appointments for our second shots in three weeks time.

The organization of the event was good. people knew what they were doing, and did it with ease, good humor, and grace. Good job!

The starting point of this very effective delivery service seems to have been when NCHD set up the ‘waitlist’. From then things seem to have worked like clockwork. Thank you.

Curious: How did you obtain vaccine reservations for both of you when the county system prevents such? As instructed by the county, only one reservation can be made at a time. If the system is fair and equitable and random as claimed, it should not be possible for a couple to receive both reservations at the same time. My wife and I have not succeeded as you have. What’s your secret?

None of this worked for me. Still waiting for a vaccine. Last signed up by phone this past week. Extremely frustrating. Praying my husband and I are on the list still.

As of 1/28 7,426 residents had received at least one dose of Covid vaccine and 8,276 had been vaccinated. Per the county, 9,000 were registered (in the lottery) to receive the vaccine. One of us has yet to hear from the county or receive the first shot despite registering on the first day! Meanwhile other “couples” report receiving their vaccines on the same day! Such was supposed to be impossible with the lottery system. What gives? I will spend most of today seeking answers from our county. Wish me much luck.

We have not heard from the county at all. I have not received an email update this week. Did they not get any vaccines this week? Over 8,000 people have been vaccinated? Please let us know if you can get any answers.

The above approach to vaccinate may have been a sound approach if it did not include the fact that is essentially a lottery. No guarantee that people who have been on the list from the beginning and fit into the requisite group will actually get a chance at receiving the vaccine. As the registration grows it is entirely possible that a newly registered person who has jus relocated to Florida/ or Nassau county is served first. One can only wonder about the diminished chances as the registration grows

I live in West Palm Beach but am moving to Nassau County on April 1st. Can I use my West Palm Beach address on my Vaccine Screening & Consent form and when I check in at the Vaccination site (after I secure an appointment). Thanks.

I believe the answer is yes, but I’d suggest you check in with Nassau County Emergency Management. They have a Facebook page, and at times they answer, or you could call them.
