County Has a New Planning Director

Nassau County’s new planning director is Elizabeth Backe. She has almost 25 years of experience in public sector work including community planning, growth management, transportation planning, and sustainability.

She will provide professional planning support to county departments and will serve as the technical planning advisor for the county manager and board of county commissioners. Other duties will include review and implementation of the county’s land development code and comprehensive plan, and reviewing all zoning applications, land-use amendments, plats and subdivisions for compliance.

She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Eckerd College and a Master of Science in Planning degree from Florida State University.

“I’m grateful for this opportunity and look forward to collaborating with the county manager and other staff to advance the board’s strategic priorities. I also look forward to engaging with Nassau County’s residents to foster a transparent and community-based approach to county governance.”

No mention of where her “almost 25 years of experience” comes from. I want to know what county(s) she gained all of this alleged experience, and what qualifies her to be a technical planning advisor to the manager and commissioners, especially in the area of development. Nassau County sure don’t need anymore Wildlights. The one we’ve been railroaded with is already is too much.

OK retired from the Federal Gvmt last week. Looking forward to no Hatch Act restrictions. Currently living in Heron Isles and looking forward to hearing about the plans for the Heron Isles/Yulee Publix area of the county. I get immediately concerned when someone uses buzzwords like “transparent”
